Different Methods for Connecting Windows 8 to Windows7

Do you have two PCs at home with one running Windows 7 and the other running Windows 8? Or, does your workspace have people using different Windows versions? Well, you can easily connect Windows 8 PC to Windows 7 PC. Now, you do not have to look for a pendrive in order to get documents from the other PC. Let’s go through the different ways to link Windows 8 to Windows 7.

With HomeGroups

Users of Windows OS can connect their PCs to the same home network. Let’s get started:

1. If you have several home networks, then ensure that both the Windows 8 PC along with the
    Windows 7 PC is connected to the same network.
2. You can connect the computer/s to the home network over the Wi-Fi as well.
3. Now, just decide which PC will be used to create the HomeGroup.
  •  Windows 8.1 RT can connect to a HomeGroup, but it is unable to share data or make a HomeGroup.
  • Windows 7 Basic and Starter can connect to a HomeGroup, but they are unable to make any.
  •  All the remaining Windows 8.1, 8, and 7 versions have the power to not only join but also create HomeGroups.
4. Launch the Start menu and select Control Panel.
5. Click on Network and Internet and choose HomeGroup.
6. Now, simply hit the Create a homegroup button.
7. In the following prompt, place a checkmark next to what you wish to share with other home
   computers.
8. The options are pictures, music, printers, documents, and videos.
9. Click on the Next button at the bottom.
10. Note down the password displayed on the screen.
11. Now, power on the second system and go to the Control Panel.
12. Visit Network and Internet and select HomeGroup.
13. Click on the Join Now button.
14. Pick the files and devices you wish to share and set their permissions.
15. Click on the next button.
16. Go to HomeGroup from File Explorer.

Share different files and folders

1. Launch Control Panel on the system being used to share the folder.
2. Navigate to Network and Sharing Center by going to Network and Internet.
3. Now, from the left pane, click on Change advanced sharing settings.
4. Click on the drop down.
5. Click on the circle next to Turn on file and printer sharing
6. Click on the Save changes button located at the bottom right corner.
7. Open the file you wish to share.
8. Right-click on the file.
9. Click on Properties from the pop-out menu.
10 Click on the Sharing tab.
11.Choose Everyone from the pull-down list.
12. Hit the Add button.
13. Click on the Share button at the bottom.
14. Make sure that the other system is connected to the same home network.
15. Launch File Explorer and go to Network to find the shared file.
